First Impressions…

The lights played off the rotunda ceiling as it poured out of the aquarium tank. He stood, silhouetted against the deep blue, watching the fish swim in and around the reef, his arms akimbo.

“You’re late.” He said without even turning around.

“How did you…”

“You know who I am? Does it surprise you that I knew?” He turned, a smile crossing his face. “Nah, I saw you in the reflection of the glass.” He jested, closing the gap between us, his right hand outstretched toward me.

As I took his hand in mine, I could feel him clamp down, almost vise like, as his face became much more stern. “But, you are late.”

“Sorry, I got…”

“No.” His words silenced me instantly. ” No excuses. But, come walk with me.” As we turned to walk out of the rotunda, he said to me, “I have a jobย in need of doing.”

I'm older than I think I am and younger than I feel. I'm stuck in the 80's but relevant to today (oh I hope that last part is true). I think I am more of an enigma than I really am, but somehow still confound those who try to figure me out (or they just look at me weird, so I infer that). And I really hate my first name. Husband, father, Navy Vet, UCF graduate, cat owner (translate.. slave), wannabe writer, and all around big kid who is stuck in an adult world. Overall, I just... um.. something to something, blah blah blah. And that's all I got to say about that.

  1. A very intriguing story that leaves me wanting more. ๐Ÿ™‚ Who is the man and what is the job he needs doing? I love the characterisaton of the waiting man – the way he moves between serious and joking. Very well done.
